Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals through Digital Transformation

Abstract

The theme of the 3rd edition of UAE Public Policy Forum is “Accelerating SDGs Implementation: Future Policy Roadmap”. The Forum focused on the emerging accelerating dynamics for implementing the SDGs in the age of the “4th Industrial Revolution”. As a policy and knowledge platform, the Forum addressed policy implications, challenges, responses and future sustainable development prospects in the UAE with the objective of contributing to efforts to draft a “policy roadmap” for the UAE’s 2030 agenda. Ultimately, the Forum aims to contribute to the local and global efforts to accelerate the SDGs implementations through proactive discussions on future directions of sustainability policies in the age of digital governance, big data, artificial intelligence, smart cities and universal digital transformation. The proceedings include nine accepted papers, in response to an international Call for Papers. These papers were presented during PPF 2019. Given the theme of the PPF 2019, academic papers and case studies were invited to be submitted primary related to accelerating sustainable development goals implementation through digital transformation. These papers mainly focus on how big data, information communication technologies, digitization, and Internet of Things (IoT) can contribute to various aspects of development. Besides these, topics such as design thinking and circular economy and governance are also covered.

موضوع النسخة الثالثة من منتدى الإمارات للسياسات العامة هو "تسريع تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة: خارطة طريق السياسات المستقبلية". ركز المنتدى على الديناميكيات الناشئة والمتسارعة لتنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة في عصر "الثورة الصناعية الرابعة". وباعتباره منصة للسياسات والمعرفة، تناول المنتدى آثار السياسات والتحديات والاستجابات وآفاق التنمية المستدامة المستقبلية في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة بهدف المساهمة في الجهود المبذولة لصياغة "خارطة طريق السياسات" لأجندة الإمارات العربية المتحدة 2030. ويهدف المنتدى في نهاية المطاف إلى المساهمة في الجهود المحلية والعالمية لتسريع تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة من خلال مناقشات استباقية حول الاتجاهات المستقبلية لسياسات الاستدامة في عصر الحوكمة الرقمية والبيانات الضخمة والذكاء الاصطناعي والمدن الذكية والتحول الرقمي الشامل.

تتضمن الإجراءات تسع أوراق بحثية مقبولة، استجابةً لدعوة دولية لتقديم أوراق بحثية. وعُرضت هذه الأوراق خلال منتدى السياسات العامة 2019. ونظرًا لموضوع منتدى السياسات العامة 2019، فقد دُعيت أوراق بحثية أكاديمية ودراسات حالة لتقديمها تتعلق في المقام الأول بتسريع تنفيذ أهداف التنمية المستدامة من خلال التحول الرقمي. تركز هذه الأوراق البحثية بشكل رئيسي على كيفية مساهمة البيانات الضخمة، وتقنيات الاتصالات، والرقمنة، وإنترنت الأشياء (IoT) في مختلف جوانب التنمية. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، تتناول مواضيع مثل التفكير التصميمي، والاقتصاد الدائري، والحوكمة.
